Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite tablet with dual-core processor, Android 4.2 launched

Samsung's long-rumoured Galaxy Tab3 Lite tablet is now official, and expands the company's overall Galaxy Tab line-up.

The South Korean manufacturer has not revealed the pricing of the new Galaxy Tab3 Lite. However, Samsung has announced that the new tablet will be offered globally and will be available in Black and White colour variants. Considering that the tablet has been touted to be the most affordable in Samsung's Galaxy Tab series, we can expect the tablet to be priced in budget segment.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab3 Lite tablet runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box with Samsung TouchWiz UI on top. It features a 7-inch WSVGA (1024x600 pixels) display. Notably, the Galaxy Tab3 Lite tablet comes in two variants, Wi-Fi and 3G, however there is no word on voice-calling support via the SIM.

The tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (unspecified chipset) alongside 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB inbuilt storage, which is further expandable up to 32GB with the help of microSD card. The Galaxy Tab3 Lite sports a 2-megapixel rear camera, while there is no front-facing camera. The rear camera also comes with features like Smile Shot, which automatically shoots when smile is detected; Shoot and Share that allows users to share images, and Panorama Shot that offers wide-angle view of a landscape.

LG G Flex with 6-inch curved display coming to India in February 2014

LG announced in New Delhi on Wednesday that its much-anticipated curved display smartphone, the G Flex, will be available in India in February 2014. The South Korean manufacturer did not reveal the India pricing of the G Flex however, though Amit Gujral, general manager at LG Electronics, said the phone can be expected to be priced between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 65,000 .

The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean-based G Flex is powered by a quad-core 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) processor with an Adreno 330 GPU, and 2GB of RAM. It features a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The G Flex is powered by a 3,500 mAh battery, weighs 177 grams, and is 7.9mm at its thinnest, while being 8.7mm at its thickest.

As for the 6-inch curved display, LG has used a curved OLED panel, which is also built on plastic substrates instead of glass, supposedly giving the phone better durability. The display features Real RGB technology to provide all three sub-pixels in one pixel, thereby making it "brighter and more precise."

LG has also included a new 'self-healing' coating on the back cover, an elastic coating that supposedly has the ability to "recover from the daily wear-and-tear scratches and nicks that un-cased smartphones are likely to receive." The LG G Flex's self-healing capabilities have also been creating a buzz worldwide.

Apart from the 'Rear Keys' introduced with the G2, the LG G Flex also incorporates the some new user interface features, such as QTheater for quick access to photos, videos and YouTube from the lock screen; Dual Window for multitasking with two windows; Swing Lockscreen for a dynamic lockscreen image based on the way the phone's held; as well as three Rear Key LED indicators - Face Detection, Camera Timer and Urgent Call Alert.

LG is hard at work on a new smartphone that will allow for always-on voice commands, a new report claims.

The handset, which will launch in 2014, will allow users to speak commands without needing to touch the screen first, Gotta Be Mobile is reporting on Tuesday, citing three people who claim to have knowledge of LG's plans.The technology will also allow for a broader range of commands than those available now.

Although Gotta Be Mobile cites LG's plans, it's highly likely that it won't be alone in launching a device next year that features always-on voice commands. In order to take advantage of that technology, LG's device will run the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor - a chip designed with always-on voice command functionality

Originally unveiled earlier this year, the Snapdragon 800 processor will allow users to activate the feature by simply saying hello to the device. The chip is capable of learning the device owner's voice to ensure others can't call out commands and access information. Where current voice implementations require users to press a button or the screen to be activated, the always-on functionality will always listen. Qualcomm has reassured vendors that the technology won't negatively impact battery lives.

Chances are, always-on voice commands running on a wide array of devices from a variety of vendors will be making their way to Mobile World Congress in February

Nokia Asha 501

In terms of design, you know how Nokia is designing the devices lately. Yes, colours. Lots of them. This Asha device comes in bright red, bright green, cyan, yellow, white and black. Plus, the back panels can be changed easily. Thus, if you change your mind after buying the phone - just change the back panel not the whole device (unlike the ... you know).                   As you can see, there are no hardware buttons (Goodbye, keys!); Except a volume, power and back key. The display is 3-inch QVGA (320 x 240, 133 ppi) LCD with capacitive two-point touch capability. The display is at par with entry-level Android smartphones.

It comes in two variants - single-SIM and dual-SIM, both micro SIM slots. Of course, it has GPRS connectivity to stay connected to internet whenever you want, but unfortunately no 3G support. A 3G variant is also expected to be launched. Nonetheless, you get WiFi (IEEE 802.11 b / g) to access internet at high speed.

Software part is completely revamped too. There are two home screens, one the default app drawer and second Fastlane. What Fastlane actually does is, when you swipe down it shows the activities you've done on the phone recently, with quick controls for ease of access. When you swipe up, it shows the upcoming stuff you've scheduled to remember.

The lock screen shows notifications, which can be opened or removed with just a swipe. Does the swipe thing remind you of MeeGo in Nokia N9? Apart from the user-interface improvements there is also the new Nokia Xpress Browser, to save data usage up to 90%. The swipe functionality comes at different areas when you use the device, even while typing. Just a swipe, and you switch from one keyboard to another.

The solution, which launched Dec 2012, will turn a smartphone or iPad into a mobile POS. The service is designed specifically for small businesses and includes a free mobile app and secure card reader. Merchants will have next-day access to funds received through mobile payments through a Bank of America checking account.                           

"With Mobile Pay on Demand, we are making it even easier for small business owners to accept secure               payments anywhere," said Tom Bell, CEO of Bank of America Merchant Services. "The product is fully        integrated with existing Bank of America accounts and services, allowing deposits made into a Bank of  America small business checking account to be processed as soon as the next business day."
